Bordeaux Mérignac Airport (BOD) Information: History and Facilities
The history of Bordeaux Mérignac Airport surprisingly dates back a long way, to 1917, when it was in the guise of a military airbase. Also used for civilian flights, Bordeaux's airport was soon used by Air France for various flights around Europe. During WWII, the US air force was based at Mérignac Airport and it was not until the 1960s that all military activities ceased at the airport and the boom of package flights commenced.
Bordeaux Airport has several ATM machines, a bank and a post office. There are also plenty of shops, including one duty-free store in Hall A, and the Aeroboutique in Hall B. In addition, there are cafés, bars and two restaurants, Les Navigateurs and Les Maitres de Chais, which offer fine dining and excellent runway views.
A fax machine and a photocopier are provided on the departures level of Hall A. For more business facilities at Bordeaux Airport, travellers can go to one of several nearby airport hotels that offer conference rooms and other business amenities.
